New Hosting Provider

DreamHost logoWell, after 3 months with my old host, I’ve moved the site to a new hosting provider. My provider of choice is now DreamHost.

I’ve been reading about DreamHost for a long time now, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. After a few bouts of frustration with my old provider, I decided that it was time to make the move. It’s really a good thing that I only signed up for a 3 month term in the first place. I would suggest this method of sign up if you’re going with a host that you’re unsure of, or haven’t heard much about before. Actually, I’d suggest going with DreamHost in the first place so that you save yourself the hassle.

DreamHost offers a lot of very non-standard features on their hosting plans. Things like Full SSH access, an industry leading 97-day money back guarantee, unlimited domains hosted (1 free registration), and unlimited MySQL databases, just to name a few. Add to that the fact that with every week you’re a DreamHost client, they increase your storage space and bandwidth limits.

The only reservations I had about switching over to DreamHost were an immediate drop in transfer/storage limits, and that my new host is in Southern California rather than in Toronto (in my time zone). It was nice to have my host in the same time zone, but PHP makes it pretty easy to compensate for the time difference though, so it’s not that big of a deal.

I’m sure as time goes by, I’ll post more about my hosting experiences with DreamHost and other hosting companies that I’ve had that pleasure (or displeasure as the case may be) of working with.

Here’s to the future. Dream big.
