Note: Predictions for week 12 of the 2008 NFL season can be found here: NFL Week 12 Predictions.
So, last week I ended up going 9-7 for my picks, which was a little disappointing. What’s more disappointing though is the fact that the Packers lost again. More on this later.
This week brings us 2 games on Thursday (Thanksgiving in the US), and both of these games have playoff implications, which should make for an interesting Thursday.
ESPN Expert Picks: Last Week | This Week.
Now, my predictions for week 12!
![]()
Atlanta Falcons (6-4) at Detroit Lions (4-6) - The Lions don’t really have much of a shot at the playoffs anymore, but the Falcons do. They can’t afford to lose any more games against teams that are worse than them. The Lions always play well at home on Thanksgiving, but I think the Falcons will be able to win this one. Pick: Falcons.
![]()
Denver Broncos (8-2) at Dallas Cowboys (7-3) - This is definitely a hard game to predict. Denver has been playing extremely well over the past several weeks and no one can deny the fact that they’re one of this year’s best teams. Dallas has also been playing well. Two weeks ago on Monday night, they came back and won the game against the Eagles, and last week they beat Detroit by running the ball for almost 150 yards. I think it’ll be a very close game that will probably be decided by whoever ends up with the ball last, but I’m going with Denver to win it. Pick: Broncos.
![]()
Baltimore Ravens (3-7) at Cincinnati Bengals (7-3) - Even with Tommy Maddox at QB, I’m really surprised that the Steelers got beat by the Ravens last week. Cincinnati made it a very entertaining game against the Colts, and as long as their offense keeps going the way it has been, they’ll come out of this game with a record of 8-3. Pick: Bengals.
![]()
Carolina Panthers (7-3) at Buffalo Bills (4-6) - Wow, Carolina looked absolutely terrible against Chicago last week. Wow, Buffalo looked absolutely terrible against San Diego last week. Which team will bounce back from a very disappointing loss last week? Probably not Buffalo. Pick: Panthers.
![]()
Chicago Bears (7-3) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3) - This is going to be a great game. Two of the NFL’s top defenses are going head to head. Tampa Bay struggled for a bit after losing Cadillac Williams, but they looks like they’re on fire now. Chicago is on a 6 game winning streak, so they have lots of momentum going into this game. Tampa has the home field advantage, and Raymond James stadium is not the easiest place for visiting teams to win. Pick: Buccaneers.
![]()
Cleveland Browns (4-6) at Minnesota Vikings (5-5) - As much as I hate the fact that Minnesota beat Green Bay last week, I do have to admit that they’re really playing well right now. It looks like they’re finally starting to put the past behind them. Instead of fizzling out at the end of the season like the past 2 years, the Vikings look like they’re picking up speed to give Chicago a run for their money. Pick: Vikings.
![]()
New England Patriots (6-4) at Kansas City Chiefs (6-4) - The Chiefs are just inconsistent. Period. Last week Larry Johnson ran for over 200 yards, that’s HUGE. The Patriots finally won 2 games in a row for the first time this season. This is actually a very hard pick, because if KC plays well, they should be able to beat the Pats. This game has major playoff implications for both teams. The Chiefs are looking to stay on pace with San Diego, while the Patriots are hoping to stay at the top of the AFC east. Pick: Patriots.
![]()
San Diego Chargers (6-4) at Washington Redskins (5-5) - The Chargers are probably not going to put up 48 points on Washington’s defense like they did against Buffalo last week. San Diego should be able to win this game though. Pick: Chargers.
![]()
San Francisco 49ers (2-8) at Tennessee Titans (2-8) - Honestly, I really don’t have too much to say about this game. It’s doesn’t really mean anything for either team except that it’s a win. I’ll take Tennessee because they’re better overall this year. Pick: Titans.
![]()
St. Louis Rams (4-6) at Houston Texans (1-9) - Last week I actually got a chance to watch the Texans game, and I have to say, I really am feeling sorry for them. David Carr is a good quarterback and I feel sorry for him too. They could probably win this game this week, but I just can’t pick them. Pick: Rams.
![]()
Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3) at Arizona Cardinals (3-7) - Jacksonville should win this game. The Cardinals had a great week last week, and I’m glad that Kurt Warner did so well in his return to St. Louis. If Arizona plays that way this week, this could be a close game. Pick: Jaguars.
![]()
Miami Dolphins (3-7) at Oakland Raiders (4-6) - I was pretty surprised last week that Miami got shut out by the Browns. I don’t think I’ll pick Miami much more this year. The Raiders really pulled it together last week to get another win, and they should have success against Miami this week. Pick: Raiders.
![]()
Green Bay Packers (2-8) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-6) - Well, Green Bay is now pretty much out of the playoff picture. Unless Chicago and Minnesota lose the rest of their games and Green Bay wins their last 6, it will be impossible for the Pack to make the Playoffs. Philadelphia is pretty much out of the playoff picture as well. Green Bay is really frustrated, and as a Packers fan, so am I. They should have won both of the games against Minnesota this year. I think they’ll probably win this week against the Eagles, cause it’s a mess in Philly right now. By the way, congrats to the Eagles on the recent ruling. Pick: Packers.
![]()
New York Giants (7-3) at Seattle Seahawks (8-2) - This is probably the biggest game of the week in the NFC. Eli Manning and the Giants are miles better than they were last year, and have a great shot at winning their division. The Seahawks are also playing very good football and have pretty much wrapped up their division. Almost losing to the 49ers last week was a little odd, and hopefully for Seattle, it was just one game. Pick: Seahawks.
![]()
New Orleans Saints (2-8) at New York Jets (2-8) - I don’t know if I could be any less interested in this game. I usually watch the Sunday nighter, but I may decide not to this week. The Saints are due for a win and I think they’ll get it this week. Pick: Saints.
![]()
Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3) at Indianapolis Colts (10-0) - With the exception of the Colts-Patriots Monday night game a few weeks back, this is the biggest MNF game this year. Indianapolis is doing so well and they’re so focused on winning, it really looks like they can’t be stopped right now. I don’t think the Steelers will be able to win, with or without Ben Roethlisberger. Pick: Colts.

UPDATE: Finally, a week that I can be happy about! Well, except for Green Bay’s 9th loss of the season. Still, 12-4 isn’t too shabby.
