Welcome to May

It’s hard to believe that it’s already May 1st. Even counting the first 4 months of 2005 (in which I was not only enduring my last semester of college, but also preparing for my wedding, searching for apartments and weighing career options), this has been the busiest 4 months in memory by far.

So here’s a run down of what’s been going on in my life lately, and why the posts around here have been few and far between.

I’ve been at Barking Dog Studios now for 7 months, and I’m still loving every minute. I can’t tell you how blessed I feel to be working with such an incredible team. Yes, it’s been busy and hectic at times, but I’m learning a lot and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

On a personal front, Deb and I just bought our first house! We’re super excited about that and about leaving apartment life behind. Even as I type this I find myself frustrated by having to go all the way down the elevator only to find that their weren’t any washing machines available for the 2 loads of laundry I brought with me. Well, in a few months I wont have to live with that frustration any more! Add a new car to the list and all the other things that go on when you’re trying to secure financing for a house and you can probably understand why I haven’t had much time to devote to this site lately.

With all that said, I think I’ve come to a decision. I’ve sort of always felt like if I didn’t have enough to say to make a “decent sized” entry that I should just not post. I think I’m coming to terms with the fact that not every entry has to be a predefined length to make it worth my while. Hey, this is my site, so why not post when I feel like it?

So, expect to see a few more posts coming (hopefully) a little more regularly in the weeks and months to come. There are still a few things that I really want to do on this site feature-wise, and a couple of posts that are taking me far to long to complete. I’ll try to get those posted as soon as time will allow.

A Few Random Thoughts…

The Wide World of Sports:

Chad Johnson goes for birdie! The Green Bay Packers had a good draft. Thankfully they took A.J. Hawk and filled a real need in their team. In other NFL news I have a couple of things to say.

First, my new favourite website to find NFL rumours and news is ProFootbalTalk.com. It’s not pretty, but they’ve always got the latest stories and rumours before anyone else posts them. Secondly, I’m really going to miss the touchdown celebrations from Chad Johnson (and all the other greats). This is a stupid rule change in my opinion. There. I said it.

I’m also quite pleased that Brett Favre is coming back for one more year!

I never thought I’d care about baseball in High Definition. But now, after watching the Blue Jays in High Def. for the entire month of April, I don’t think I’d ever want to go back. Oh, and hats off the Ted Rogers for finally spending some cash on the Blue Jays roster. It looks like it’s paying off so far and from my perspective the Jays actually stand a chance this year.

I am enjoying the Stanley Cup Playoffs sans Toronto Maple Leafs. Go Calgary!

UPDATE: Wow, the Flames really stunk it up in Game 7 of their quarter final series. Where was the heart, determination and hard work that the Flames have become synonymous with? They just looked completely flat and gave their usually radical fans absolutely nothing to cheer for. Oh well, on to the 2nd choice: Go Ottawa!

Hopefully with Brian Colangelo at the helm for the 2006-2007 season, the Raptors will be a competitive team. Giving credit where credit is due: Charlie Villanueva had a great year and really silenced his critics. I’m not a huge basketball fan, so I wasn’t really playing judge when the Raps drafted Charlie V last year - but I did hear all the commotion and stink the ‘experts’ made when Toronto picked this guy. Here’s a quote from Dan Shanoff of ESPN after the conclusion of the Raptors season.

I have to offer a runner-up prize (for Rookie of the Year) to Toronto’s Charlie Villanueva, if only because on Draft Night, this guy was ripped mercilessly by basically everyone, after being picked 7th. After averaging 13 and 6 and, arguably, as the 2nd-best rookie, CV deserves the props.

Rebooting:

No, I’m not taking part in this one, but today was reboot day, and here are a few of my favourite site reboots that I’ve seen so far:
