Gravatar 2.0

A few weeks back I was asked about the comment avatars that are displayed on my site and how to use them. Since August of 2006, I’ve been using a great service called Gravatar that allows users to have an avatar associated with their email address.
Unfortunately, Gravatar has been dealing with some growing pains over the past 6 months due to its increasing popularity. This caused a lot of people to give up on Gravatar (even temporarily) and sadly the Gravatar reputation was tainted. Well, I’m happy to say that on February 15th, Gravatar 2.0 was launched and it’s back better than ever.
Several popular sites are (or were at one point) using Gravatars to allow their readers to have an avatar on each comment they post on their site. This is a great way for people to maintain an identity across an infinite number of sites and make themselves more recognizable. Now that Gravatar has launched into the two point oh, it will become even more popular as more and more developers start utilizing the service.
So, head on over to Gravatar.com, sign up, and learn all about this great service. Also, for those developers that would like to add Gravatars to their sites, there’s a very well written and thorough implementation guide available that makes it extremely easy to add Gravatars to any site.
